Abstract
A surveillance of chigger mites as the vectors of scrub typhus was performed at 11 locations in Korea from September to November 2016. During the surveillance period, 3,068 chigger mites were collected. They first appeared in the 38th week (September 14-20) and reached peak density in the 42nd week (October 12-18). A total of 3,068 chigger mites were identified; the predominant species were L. scutellare (39.1%) and N. tamiyai (23.9%). The highest collection rates were reported in rice fields (43.1%) and waterways (28.5%). The relationship between climate factors and chigger mite density requires studies through long-term surveillance.
